Pride and Prejudice is a group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning youth (ages 14-23)
There are now two groups:
Owen Sound - that meets the 4th Thursday of each month from 7-9pm at the Ginger Press Bookstore
and
Port Elgin - that meets the 3rd Monday of each month from 7-9pm at the Port Elgin Library

For adults:
Pride and Prejudice is a social and informational group that gets together and talks about various LGBTQ related issues that may be of importance in the lives of those present, play games, learn about important topics that LGBTQ youth need to know. The group is run by the AIDS Committee of Guelph and Wellington County in accordance with a grant received by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The youth group meets separately in Owen Sound and Port Elgin. We recognize that there are limited options for LGBTQ youth in almost all areas of Grey and Bruce County. There are many youth who may be unaware or unable to get to Owen Sound or Port Elgin. And some youth who are not yet out may have a difficult time explaining to their parents where they are going and why they need the ride.
LGBTQ youth have been shown in study after to study to face enormous obstacles in their lives and development and these challenges affect their lives in countless ways, especially in rural areas. While many youth are now succeeding in overcoming these there are many who are unable. Lack of self worth is one of the major underlying issues.
If you are interested in getting involved with the group or starting a similar youth group in another town in Grey-Bruce, please call us! We can help to get you started and provide support to you throughout. Or, if you have an idea about how we can solve this transportation barrier please let us know.
